AURORA grew up surrounded by forests and mountains near Bergen, Norway, and was six years old when she first felt the urge to sit by herself and create music. By the time she was twelve, she had written Runaway; a song that when released many years later went on to reach the Top 40 Singles chart in the UK, and also asserted itself on the Spotify Global Top 20.
In 2015, she released the single Half the World Away; her cover version of an Oasis song from 1994. The single reached 11th place in the UK singles chart, and in December that same year she performed three songs at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo.
In 2016, AURORA’S debut album, All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend, was released. For the album, she won the Norwegian Grammys in two categories, and she was listed by Rolling Stone as one of ten new artists you should know about.
AURORA's next project, Infections Of A Different Kind (Step 1), was released in September 2018 as part one of a series. The second album, A Different Kind of Human (Step 2), was released in June, 2019. In November the same year, the soundtrack to Disney's animated film Frozen 2 was released, where AURORA participated with background vocals on the song Into the Unknown. She also provided the voice of The northern wind in the film. In January 2020, The Oscar Academy announced that the song had been nominated in the Best Original Score category. One month later, AURORA performed during the 92nd Academy Awards.
Her fourth studio album, The Gods We Can Touch, was released in 2022, followed by her fifth album, What Happened to the Heart?, in 2024. Following both releases, AURORA went on massive world tours, headlining at large arenas like Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City and Wembley Arena in London.
AURORA is known as a different pop star; she has an honest, often charmingly quirky stream-of-consciousness-way of expressing herself in interviews and public appearances, and her style and visual identity is typically created by herself and her two older sisters. She has named her fans Warriors and weirdos, and her lyrics frequently touches on topics like LGBTQ-rights, climate change, feminism and the feeling of being different. Throughout the singer’s career, her ethereal, atmospheric pop music, distinctive voice and lyrical messages has attracted a continuously growing, as well as extraordinary dedicated, fanbase all over the world.
As of 2026, AURORA is touring with TOMORA - a collaborative project she has together with Tom Rowland from The Chemical Brothers. The duo released their debut album - Come Closer in April, 26.
